The Winnipeg Jets have a shortened coaching staff behind the bench as they take on the New York Rangers in the Big Apple on Tuesday night.

Rick Bowness returned to Winnipeg to continue treatment for what the Jets say is due to a "minor medical procedure."

In Bowness' absence, associate coach Scott Arniel will serve as interim head coach.

This isn't the first time this season that Bowness has taken a medical leave. In Oct. 2023, the bench boss left to be with his wife Judy after she had a seizure. Arniel served as interim head coach while he was away and went 9-2-2 in the 13 games.

The Jets have been particularly strong this season, especially since February going 13-7-0 in the last 20 games. The trade deadline acquisitions of Sean Monahan and Tyler Toffoli have given the Jets some added scoring abilities, with Toffoli scoring four goals in the last two games.

The puck drops at Madison Square Garden tonight at 6 p.m.
