One person is dead following a crash on Highway 8 on Thursday afternoon.

On June 6 at approximately 12:10 p.m., RCMP Eastman Traffic Services was conducting speed enforcement when an officer heard a collision behind them on Highway 8. It happened at the northbound intersection of Highway 8 and Northumberland Road in the RM of West St. Paul.

The officer was immediately on the scene where they found an unresponsive 76-year-old female driver and a 76-year-old male passenger who was injured. Both SUV occupants from Winnipeg. 

Emergency Medical Services was quickly called and a nurse who was passing by stopped to help before both occupants were transported to a Winnipeg hospital. 

The male remains in stable condition while the female has since succumbed to her injuries. 

After the investigation, it was determined that an SUV was heading westbound on Northumberland Road when it proceeded from the stop sign entering Highway 8. The SUV was then struck by a northbound SUV on the driver’s side of the vehicle.

The 27-year-old female driver of the northbound SUV, from Ste. Agathe, was not physically injured in the collision.
