China's communist government continues to crack down on a large church in that country. Last week they arrested 44 people in a raid. Many of those people, including a 74-year-old woman were "violently beaten."

ChinaAid reports that the 44 people were part of two separate worship venues of the Early Rain Covenant Church. The raid took place on February 24.

Later in the same day another attendee, A Xin, was arrested by police at his home. According to ChinaAid, Xin was arrested for writing about the raids earlier in the day.

A Facebook post on a page called 'Pray for Early Rain Covenant Church' says that the worship venues were private homes where people had gathered to worship.

"Brother A-Xin, a translator, after hearing about children, elderly people, and pregnant women being arrested at home gatherings and about Wang Yi’s 74-year-old mother being insulted and beaten, took up his pen and began writing furiously. In the evening, he was arrested at his home by nearly ten police officers," the post said.

ChinaAid says that 11 of the 44 people arrested have been placed in 'administrative detention.'

"According to a statement released by Early Rain Covenant Church, Tang Chunliang and other Christians were violently beaten, and children slept on the cold table and floor. During their time in detention, there was no access to food and some of them were not released until 2:00 a.m."

The government first raided the church on December 9, 2018. More than 150 people were taken into custody at that time. Some, including that church's Pastor and his wife, remain in custody.

A letter by the Pastor written before his arrest, called 'My Declaration of Faithful Disobedience,' was published after his arrest.
