Whitemouth RCMP are investigating following a possible drowning in the Whiteshell Provincial Park.

At around 11:44 a.m. on Saturday, officers received a report of a possible drowning at Sturgeon Falls.

Witnesses say that a 12-year-old boy from Winnipeg was seen climbing down some rocks when he slipped into the water and was almost immediately swept under the rapids.

A bystander jumped into the water to help the boy but could not safely bring him to shore.

The RCMP Underwater Recovery Team, along with assistance from Manitoba Conservation Officers & Manitoba Parks staff, continue to search for the boy.

Whitemouth RCMP continue to investigate.
