Winnipeg's Homicide Unit is investigating the homicide of a 26-year-old man.

Winnipeg Police Services (WPS) sent out a release indicating that on September 3, at 1:05 a.m., officers were dispatched to a residence in the 200 block of Mapleglen Drive for a report of an assault.

Once on the scene of the assault, officers found a severely injured male and began to administer emergency medical care, including the use of tourniquets. The victim was transported to the hospital in critical condition, where he was later pronounced deceased. 26-year-old Dakota Beardy from Winnipeg was the victim of the assault.

The report says that through continued investigation, the Homicide Unit believed the suspect and victim were present together at the house when the altercation occurred.

A 16-year-old male from Winnipeg has been found in the area and placed under arrest. He has been charged with second-degree murder and was detained.
