Three men seen rifling through a shed on the border of the East St. Paul neighbourhood have been arrested by police.

One of the men appeared to be armed with a rifle.

Winnipeg police responded to the 500 block of Glenway Ave on the border of Winnipeg and East St. Paul at 2:17 a.m. Sunday.

Officers searching the area for the men were assisted by a passing motorist who had seen the suspects enter a nearby backyard. The Winnipeg Police Service K9 unit also assisted with the search.

The three suspects were taken into custody hiding in three different locations. One was behind a shed in the 500 block of Emerson Ave, and two were found in the 700 block of Glenway Ave -- one in a yard and one was found under the steps of a home.

Stolen property was also recovered from a nearby home by officers, along with two weapons which police say were air rifles.

A 22-year-old Winnipeg male is facing four charges, including breaking, entering, and theft of a place; possession of a weapon; use of an imitation firearm during the commission of an indictable offence; and failure to comply with a probation order.

He has been detained in custody.

A 14-year-old is also facing the same four charges. He was released on an undertaking.

The third suspect was released without charges, police say.

WPS thanks the RCMP and the assisting motorist for their help with the search.
