A 36-year-old Winnipeg taxi cab driver is recovering after being stabbed while on a shift.

On March 25, 2023, at approximately 7:30 a.m., North District General Patrol officers responded to the 1000 block of McPhillips Street for a report of a taxi cab driver stabbed by a male suspect who had since fled.

Upon arrival, a police unit located the 36-year-old male victim and provided emergency medical care. Members of the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service attended soon after, and the victim was transported to a hospital in stable condition.

Another police unit, which had been searching the area, was flagged down by a pair of passersby who directed them to the 1200 block of Church Avenue. A male suspect was located in a nearby yard and taken into custody.

It is believed that the suspect had confronted the driver in his parked cab and demanded a ride. The suspect then became enraged and threatened to kill the victim before stabbing him. The victim was later treated and released from the hospital
