One child drowned while swimming over the weekend in Gods Lake approximately 540 kilometres northeast of Winnipeg.

RCMP say a group of children, from ages five to 12, were swimming in the south side of Gods Lake on June 30 at 3:40 p.m. when one child, a seven-year-old girl, went under the water.

The other children quickly ran to get help and an adult was able to pull the girl out of the water and start first aid.

The child was pronounced dead at the nursing station.

Gods Lake Narrows RCMP continues to investigate.
