80 children rescued from terrorist recruitment in Uganda

Over 100 suspects are in custody after recruiting children that are now being safely returned home in Africa. 

Last week during a press conference, local police spokesman Fred Enanga shared how the rescues of these children was a joint effort, according to International Christian Concern (ICC). The Anti-Terrorism Task Force and the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence worked together to rescue the children. 

There were 50 children freed in the Kalule-Luwero and Ntoroko districts. Last weekend during a raid at a terrorist recruitment home in the Kasengeje-Wakiso district 22 children were rescued. Finally an additional 15 children were found and taken away from the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebel group.

It has been reported that 106 suspects were arrested during the raids for allegedly facilitating, financing, and recruiting for ADF.

The ADF group is affiliated with ISIS and first emerged in Western Uganda, and currently operates out of the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

The terrorist group is known to kill, kidnap, or displace Christians in DRC and recently conducted four bomb attacks in Uganda's capital of Kampala.

Some of the children shared what happened with the police, saying they were being trained to handle weapons and shown how to plant and detonate explosives, according to The Independent.

Of the 80 children, some are at area shelters while others have been reunited with their families.
