A new film will hit theatres Canada-wide on November 22, 2019 that will re-introduce audiences to Mister Rogers' love and respect for humanity.

Fred Rogers wife, Joanne Rogers,  joined us to talk to us about life with Mister Rogers and what this movie means to her and the audience  that grew up with Mister Rogers.

"I think they'll have a little visit back to their childhood. That's an emotional thing. It's a good thing," said Joanne. "Maybe we need to go back to those times occasionally, if we can."

Tom Hanks (FORREST GUMP, SLEEPLESS IN SEATTLE) dons the famous red cardigan and steps into iconic canvas tennis shoes to play Fred Rogers in TriStar Pictures’ A BEAUTIFUL DAY IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD.

Inspired by award-winning New York journalist Tom Junod’s Esquire profile on Fred Rogers, Can You Say… Hero?, and the real-life friendship developed between the two men, A BEAUTIFUL DAY IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD reminds audiences of Mister Rogers’ dedication to empathy, kindness and decency.

“Fred Rogers was beloved in the eyes of the children who watched him right at that core time when they needed somebody to explain the world to them in a calm and almost quiet kind of way, because their parents are always too busy to explain such things,” Tom Hanks says.

When investigative New York journalist Lloyd (Rhys) is assigned a profile on Mister Rogers, he approaches the children’s icon with cynicism; not believing that anyone can really be that good of a person. Lloyd is immediately thrown off guard by Fred and is forced to reconcile with his own jadedness and pain. Bit, by bit, as Lloyd’s cynicism is chipped away, audiences let their own guards down and reconnect with a part of themselves from their childhood. “When I think of Fred, I often think of him in terms of what he did every morning, which was pray and think of the people he needed to pray for and write to those people,” journalist Junod says.“Fred had that amazing gift of looking at a person and seeing what that person needed, and that he was going to minister to that person. And that person, in this particular case, was me…I look back on it now and realize how purposeful Fred was and how relentless he was in doing that.”

Audiences will remember Fred Rogers from his television show, Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood, which ran for 895 episodes. An ordained minister with the United Presbyterian Church, and skilled in music and puppetry, Fred created a warm, friendly, kind and safe space for children to learn about the realities of growing up. Fred spoke directly to his young audiences about difficult topics, such as divorce, death, bullying, anger and sadness.
