World Missionary Press has 126 million requests for Scripture booklets and nearly half of them are from African countries. However, it's dangerous to get those Bibles into the hands of the spiritually hungry.

World Missionary Press primarily serves 56 countries and produces almost seven million booklets a month which they send out free of charge. However, they are still unable to meet all the requests for the Word. Helen Williams with World Missionary Press says to Missionary Network News, "there is a growing hunger for God's Word."

Williams says that "day after day" she receives requests from growing African churches. “I have an email on my desk from this morning from a man in Zambia saying, ‘We definitely need spiritual food here. I’ve got five little churches out in the valley [with] 473 people, but there’s a tremendous hunger for the Word and I need your help."

Williams says that's not the only country in need. WMP has received requests from two of the largest refugee camps in Africa with growing church movements. She says, "they are eager to share Jesus with others."

Nigerian churches are also longing for more booklets. Williams says, "we can't keep Nigeria satisfied!"

"We’re giving them God’s Word which the Spirit uses because the Spirit recognizes and knows how to deal with the hunger in the heart.”

It is not just as easy as sending the Word into these countries. WMP is aware that many nations in northern Africa are wary and violent towards Christianity and there is a lack of safety and security.

"Believers from a Muslim background are often ostracized from their families and face attacks or even death," WMP says.

Williams says although there are some difficulties and dangers, "we’re seeing that there is a place for the Word to be presented and considered and then you leave it to the work of the Spirit. We’re giving them God’s Word which the Spirit uses because the Spirit recognizes and knows how to deal with the hunger in the heart.”

"It’s becoming more difficult in some of these African countries, particularly [with] new regulations [and] difficulty in infrastructure."

Williams asks that Christians "pray for safety for the shipments and for clearing. It’s becoming more difficult in some of these African countries, particularly [with] new regulations [and] difficulty in infrastructure.

"We pray for those who are going to receive it, that the Spirit’s work will be done and that people will be responsive to what they read. [Pray] that believers will be grounded and have a firmer faith,” Williams says.

World Missionary Press is an interdenominational faith ministry producing 48-page topical Scripture booklets in more than 345 languages, along with Bible study booklets and New Testaments in a variety of languages.
