On Louis Riel Day, the Baker Storm took on to the ice against the MacGregor Iron Maidens for their ninth annual faceoff.

The Baker Storm, however, isn't your typical women's hockey team.

Comprised of women from Manitoba's Hutterite community, players from Baker Storm can be easily distinguished based on their long skirts and skill on the ice.

The annual friendly matchup between the two teams was held February 18 at the Stride Normac Centre in MacGregor, Manitoba.

In an online post, Tirzah Maendel of the Baker Storm invited spectators to attend the event, held for fun and to fund a great cause.

"Donations this year going to [the] MacGregor Elementary Playground fund," Maendel shared, noting as well that they would be collecting food donations at the game for the Community Resource Centre.

It's a tradition that allows Hutterite women in Manitoba a chance to represent their communities in classic Canadian style: playing a long-weekend game of hockey.
