It's becoming an annual tradition, as the City of Winnipeg shuts down the Arlington Bridge for maintenance over the next two weeks.

Crews closed the bridge Monday at 6 a.m. Arlington is closed between Logan Avenue and Dufferin Avenue and will be closed until Monday, August 23 at 6 a.m.

The 108-year-old bridge was closed for two weeks of maintenance work last fall, as well as shorter closures for repairs as problems popped up.

The City of Winnipeg says pedestrian access will be maintained.

Motorists should allow for additional travel time, and use alternate routes such as the McPhillips Street Underpass or Slaw Rebchuk Bridge to reach their destinations.

The City says that the bridge is nearing the end of its useable life and is in process of designing a new bridge.
