Neck-deep in a swamp, RCMP says a woman was near-drowning and need of rescue.

On Thursday night at 8:30 pm. in Norway House, RCMP received a report of an assault at a residence. When they arrived, the victim was already gone.

The woman left the residence, walking into a swampy area behind the house in search of safety.

Hearing cries for help, RCMP officers found her, neck-deep in the water.

Quickly grabbing a nearby canoe, officers paddled and portaged to reach the victim, whom at this point was near-drowning.

Pulling the woman from the waters and into the canoe, she was brought safely to shore. The woman was then taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries

Norway House RCMP is continuing to investigate.
