The Winnipeg Police Service says a man is in custody after the Guns & Gangs Unit found a prohibited firearm and body armour during an investigation.

On Sunday, the WPS Guns & Gangs Unit entered a building in the 3100 block of Portage Avenue with a Criminal Code search warrant. Police say the warrant is in relation to a firearms investigation tied to a known drug dealer in Winnipeg.

Conducting the search, police found:

  • handgun (prohibited firearm)
  • 3.4 grams Methamphetamine (street value of $340)
  • $235 cash proceeds of crime
  • drug packaging materials
  • body armour
  • cellular devices 

A 30-year-old man at the scene is now facing numerous firearms and drug-related charges. Police say he also had two outstanding Probation Warrants at the time.

A 25-year-old woman is now also facing firearms and drug-related charges. She was released from custody with an Appearance Notice.
