The Christian media company Square One World Media is thrilled to celebrate 75 years of spreading the gospel and hope through Jesus Christ around the world.

Rein Cabalquinto is the Communications and Video Production Assistant at Square One World Media in Winnipeg.

"We film most of our projects here," says Cabalquinto. "Our Russian children's program, our Low German programming, A Good Life in Arabic. We do most of our projects in-house. But we have partners from Ukraine and we also have a Spanish team that goes out to the Latin Americas to record interviews and come back to Winnipeg to edit those."

Cabalquinto helps edit videos for Square One, including videos in multiple languages he doesn't speak.

"It's fun getting to work with these different languages and getting to know their culture."

Cabalquinto volunteers in the youth ministry at his church. That's how he found out about the position he basically went to school for.

"I was really hoping to get it because it's something I already do. Spreading God's love through social media, whether it's video or photos. Lo and behold, here we are."

Cabalquinto says that while he grew up going to church when he was a child he didn't fully listen to the message.

"When I was a teenager I was at a low point. I was bullied and had suicidal thoughts. When I joined my youth ministry, I felt at home. They were telling me about the gospel and Jesus, and the love He has for all His children and it gave me comfort. What we do here at Square One was literally the same thing they did for me, using the gospel to transform the lives of people."

Celebrating 75 Years of Spreading the Gospel

"Our organization recently turned 75 this year in February. This documentary highlights our beginnings of being a radio station in Winnipeg to now being a global media company reaching people all over the world. We wanted to highlight the people who helped start it as well as what have we done the past 75 years and impacted the lives of people."

Their archive room is filled with photos, records, cassette tapes, and films from over the years.

"I was thinking, wouldn't this be cool to document this into one video, just to commemorate something? I told my co-worker Ingrid that. We've done short documentaries before but not any long ones. I thought it would be cool to showcase over seven decades what we've done, tell our story, and share what God has done for Square One World Media and other people in the world."

The documentary Back to Square One will be premiered at Grant Park Theatre in Winnipeg on October 19 at 7:00 p.m. It'll also be shown in Boissevain, Steinbach, Winkler, and online. For showtimes and links to reserve tickets, click here
