A police officer who's life was saved by a Bible is calling the incident "a miracle."

The Bolivian officer says the Bible stopped a 9mm bullet from entering his chest and killing him.

When a weapon was stolen from the police during a conflict, the gun was fired but the bullet did not kill the officer, Faithwire reports.

"Yes, it was a miracle," the officer says.

In fact, the officer was not even injured in the shooting.

According to Oscar Gutierrez, head of the Special Force of the Fight Against Crime of Santa Cruz, his officer was shot in the chest but escaped injury because the officer "had a Bible that stopped the projectile.

“He is a young officer whose life was saved miraculously, he was shot by a projectile, I assume of 9mm calibre, and I know the weapons used were stolen from the Bolivian police,” Gutierrez explained.

The incident took place in eastern Bolivia while police tried to calm protests involving supporters of former president Evo Morales.

Currently undergoing medical tests, the officer will soon return to work.

The conflict comes after former President Evo Morales was forced out of power by the military in Bolivia. Morales was accused of rigging the election. At this time, Morales is staying in Mexico where he has been granted asylum.
