The Winnipeg Police Service says over $10,000 worth of online purchases were stolen in the Kildonan Meadows area over the course of one month.

Earlier this year residents in the Kildonan Meadows area made numerous reports to Canada Post about stolen packages. When conducting an internal audit, Canada Post learnt it the packages were stolen along a particular route between  January 8, 2021, and February 11.

The Winnipeg Police Service was contacted in March, saying $10,000 worth of goods were stolen. Canada Post told the Property Crime Unit they believed an employee was the culprit.

On April 7, the WPS then conducted a search warrant at the home of the suspected employee, finding over $30,000 worth of stolen property, including over 100 additional stolen items.

"The stolen merchandise included electronics, makeup and clothing, which were still in their original mailed out packages," the WPS says in a statement.

The majority of the stolen packages were reunited with the owners.

More charges could be laid in the future, but the 58-year-old employee is currently facing one global charge of Theft from Mail for 46 events.
