For the fifth year in a row, Canadian Foodgrains Bank acknowledges that it is a privilege and an honour to be one of Canada's top 10 charities.

Earlier this week, Charity Intelligence Canada's Top 10 Impact Charities for 2022 was released. It is an annual list determined by the impact per dollar donated to an organization.

According to Charity Intelligence, over $18 billion dollars was given to charities by Canadian donors last year and a significant portion of that is going to less effective charities.

With over 800 Canadian charities examined and analyzed, Charity Intelligence rates each organization through five objective aspects:

  1. Donor reporting
  2. Financial transparency
  3. Funding need,
  4. Cents to the cause
  5. Demonstrated impact

"Some charities create a lot of change with the donations given to them. Others have almost nothing to show for the money coming from donors” says Greg Thomson, Director of Research at Charity Intelligence. “Of the 300 Canadian charities we have analyzed for impact, these Top 10 have the highest measurable demonstrated impact. Our calculations estimate this group of Top 10 Impact Charities delivers average returns of almost 7 dollars for every dollar donated, compared with overall average charity returns of only 1-2 dollars."

Charities that work on the front lines in providing social services in Canada and international programs as well are part of the Top 10 Charities. Here is a list of the Top 10 (listed alphabetically):

The Canadian Foodgrains Bank has been on Charity Intelligence's list for the past five years, and the organization realizes that it is an honour and a huge responsibility to be recognized for its work.

“We’re humbled and appreciative at being included on this list,” says Foodgrains Bank executive director, Andy Harrington. “As we enter our 40th year of operation, this award recognizes how we continue to work with integrity to help end world hunger.”

The Foodgrains Bank offers assistance globally in two separate services. They provide emergency food services for people experiencing crises and disasters, and they also provide long-term support for families, this includes agricultural training and improved nutrition.

"As the world is facing an exploding hunger crisis, we hope this acknowledgement encourages more Canadians to join us in providing access to food. I believe that despite our differences we can all agree this is something every human being should have. We know that being designated as a Top 10 Impact Charity adds a level of trust for our supporters when they choose to donate towards the work of ending world hunger."
