Starting on July 5, any people entering Canada on a flight that meet the proper requirements will be exempt from being in quarantine for two weeks.

Travellers who are eligible to enter Canada, are asymptomatic, have been fully vaccinated by the approved vaccines, and meet all entry requirements can proceed to their destination with no further delay.

Previously, the federal government only allowed people ages five years and older with a negative COVID test to enter Canada. Travellers were also required to quarantine for 14 days regardless of testing negative or having recovered from a previous positive COVID-19 case. For air travellers, this meant starting with a three-night mandatory stay in a government-authorized hotel.

People who have been vaccinated fully with the following vaccines are exempt from travel restrictions:

  • Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine
  • Moderna COVID-19 vaccine
  • AstraZeneca/COVISHIELD COVID-19 vaccine
  • Janssen (Johnson & Johnson) COVID-19 vaccine - single dose

Travellers who have been vaccinated with any other type will not be exempt from restrictions when entering Canada.

If other requirements aren't met, people will be mandated to quarantine for 14 days and are told to have a place to do so upon arrival.
