More Manitobans will be eligible for a third dose of the COVID-19 vaccine in October.

Next month all personal care home residents will be eligible for a third dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. The homes are leading the clinics.

"We are working with the staff at many of the personal care homes to be able to administer doses the same way they do for other viruses like influenza, for example," Dr. Joss Reimer says in a Monday media briefing.

In other instances, the province will help if there is no staff to immunize.

Forty Manitoban schools have been visited so far with COVID-19 vaccine clinics for students. Dr. Joss Reimer initially said that areas with lower vaccine uptake rates would be visited first, but no schools in the Garden Valley School Division in Winkler have booked clinics. This division covers parts of Manitoba with the lowest vaccine uptake rates and lower test uptake.

Manitoba's COVID-19 mobile clinic will be popping up at four Winnipeg locations this week.

Locations include:

  • City Hall, 510 Main St., Winnipeg, on Wednesday, Sept. 29, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.;
  • near Jubilee Mennonite Church, 365 Edelweiss Cres., Winnipeg, on Friday, Oct. 1, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; and
  • Furby Place, 400 Langside St., on Saturday, Oct. 2, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.; and
  • Mount Carmel Clinic, 886 Main St., Winnipeg, is offering walk-ins on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5 to 8 p.m.

Earlier it was announced that some people will be eligible for third doses of the COVID-19 vaccine. These groups include:

  • people who are immunocompromised
  • people who require a third dose for travel
  • individuals who previously received doses of vaccines that are not approved by Health Canada
  • all residents and staff of First Nation personal care homes

Also in October, the second round of the Latest Vax to Win lottery winners will be announced.

To date, a total of 1,974,558 doses of COVID-19 vaccines has been given out in Manitoba.
