A church in Alabama shared a powerful image of hope after a tornado on Easter Sunday left a swath of destruction.

While the tornado reduced buildings in the area to rubble and damaged the church, it left one thing standing.

The church had three large crosses displayed outside for Easter. The storm knocked down the two outside crosses, but the centre cross, representing the cross on which Jesus died, was left standing.

The church posted a photo of the standing cross and a caption which simply states, "God is faithful."

"What a message that speaks to the world!! Jesus Lives!" one commenter said.

Just across the road from the church trees were snapped like twigs, and another building flattened.

As of Sunday evening, the state of Alabama is still experiencing several severe thunderstorms and more tornadoes.
