A teaser for I Am Jesus Christ, a video game allowing gamers to play as Jesus, is causing a stir in the Christian community.

I Am Jesus Christ is a simulation video game allowing players to pretend to be Jesus from the time of his baptism to resurrection. The game allows you to perform miracles, fight with Satan, and "save the world as He did."

Micheal Boyce, Vice President Academic and Dean Associate Professor, English and Film Studies Program at Booth University College, says "the trailer for the video game gives such a limited perspective on what the game must be, but it looks like it's just a series of healing events."

In its official game description on the gaming website Steam, the video game developer says "Have you ever wondered to be like Him - one of the most privileged and powerful people in the world?"

The video game developer, SimulaM, is new to the video game industry and has no previously released games under its name. They have no social media presence or website domain and has is unheard of by the gaming community. There is no release date for this game but the teaser video has over six million views on Twitter.

"There is a huge Christian pop culture market," says Boyce. "A lot of Christians would not be comfortable with being Jesus."

The game pulls out the question of whether it is appropriate to play as Jesus, and how accurately Biblical characters should be portrayed.

"I have lots of questions about what type of representation of Jesus this game actually has and enforces," Boyce says about his own interpretation of the video game.

The video game gives Jesus a power bar, limiting the player's ability to perform miracles. The game appears to allow you to be present during crucifixion and perform miracles in the game.

"Jesus isn't cut and dry. Someone playing a video game where they are being Jesus gives such a limited perspective of who Jesus is," Boyce says.
