An English church is set to putt people's needs for both fun and faith at the forefront of their agenda this summer.

A new nine-hole golf course is being installed in Kent's Rochester Cathedral as a fun way of inviting new people to putter around and visit the church.

The golf green is one of a number of events for non-churchgoers that have been planned across England by Anglican leaders for the approaching summer months.

"We hope that when people come in, they will know that they're welcome and they will have an enjoyable experience," said Reverend Canon Rachel Phillips from the Rochester Cathedral, Premier. reported.

Phillips hopes that while people are enjoying a unique mini-golf course, they can also use that as a bridge to thinking about the possibility of visiting their building again, perhaps for spiritual purposes or to engage in conversation.

The ultimate goal of the crazy golf initiative, shared Phillips, is to build greater connections and engage with the community around them by encouraging everyone from all backgrounds to attend.

"We're open... It's free to come in and everyone is welcome."

While the idea of using a church for fun has been criticized by some, Phillips says she sees the mini golf expansion as a greater way for the church to spread the Word of God.

"We hope that we'll reach more people with the message the good news that Christians have to bring that Jesus came to bring peace."
