Residential parking will be affected by street cleaning, starting Sunday.

Close to 500 workers over the next five to six weeks will be using more than 300 pieces of equipment to give Winnipeg a spring clean.

"Winnipeg’s entire street network, including bridges and sidewalks, will be cleaned, as well as designated active transportation pathways, boulevards, and medians," the city says in a statement.

The city is giving residents a map of where and when crews will be as residents will need to follow parking restrictions. They are encouraging people to add their addresses to their Know Your Zone map so they can be alerted to when parking restrictions apply to them.

"This will help the City’s spring cleanup operation run smoothly and will prevent you from being ticketed and towed."

They say if ticketed it will cost $112.50, or $150 if paid after 14 days, and towing will cost $120.23. Not all streets will be marked with signage regarding the temporary ban, so the city is emphasizing the importance of learning when crews will in which area.

All bans will have a 24-hour notice and last until the cleaning is complete.

Along with the roadways, crews will be heading to parks to pick up litter. Those doing spring cleaning of their own yards will note that the curbside yard waste collection program started with "A" area homes this week, and next week for "B" areas.

"Residents can also drop off yard waste for free at one of the City’s 4R Winnipeg Depots."

Collection occurs every two weeks during garbage day.
