Members of Winnipeg's homeless population are being forced to find a new place to call home as eviction notices are served today at two large camps on the edge of downtown.

The City of Winnipeg will be conducting what they call a "multi-agency cleanup effort" with the Supporting Unsheltered Winnipeggers group.

Two large camps in the area of Henry Street and Austin Avenue have been causing difficulty for many people who work in the area. The Manitoba Metis Federation (MMF) says that many of their workers are afraid to come to work. The largest encampment sits on MMF property, and the organization says that staff are often harrassed and threatened. The MMF has spent over $100,000 increasing security in the area.

e on-site, helping those who will be displaced find a new home. The City says the organizations will be on-site Wednesday through Friday to offer support and find alternative housing for the residents of the camps.

Main Street Project purchased storage units for the homeless population to use to keep their belongings safe as they transition. They say the units will be supervised.

For those at the camps wishing to get rid of items, the City of Winnipeg will be on-site with bins, and loaders for the disposal of larger items.
