A military reservist from Manitoba has been sentenced to six years in prison after he stormed the gates of Rideau Hall in Ottawa last July armed with loaded weapons.

The sentence was handed to 46-year Corey Hurren after he pleaded guilty last month to seven weapons charges and one count of mischief.

He caused $100,000 in damage when he crashed a vehicle into the gates at Rideau Hall before heading off on foot toward Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's home.

He has five years remaining in the sentence after getting credit for time served.
