Two-thirds of Thursday's new COVID-19 cases in Manitoba are in people who are not fully vaccinated, and everyone with active cases in intensive care is not vaccinated.

There are 154 new COVID-19 cases in Manitoba. This brings the total number of cases to 64,083.

Cases by heath region include:

  • 70 in Southern
  • 33 in Winnipeg
  • 21 in Northern
  • 15 in Interlake-Eastern
  • 15 in Prairie Mountain

Out of the new cases, 102 people are not fully vaccainted.

There are 1,145 active cases and 61,685 people have recovered from the virus. Two more people have died, bringing the total number of deaths to 1,253.

Deaths from this week, all linked to an unspecified variant of concern, include:

  • a male in his 40s from Southern Health-Santé Sud (reported Thursday)
  • a female in her 70s from Southern Health-Santé Sud (reported Wednesday)
  • a male in his 80s from Prairie Mountain Health (reported Wednesday)
  • a male in his 80s from Southern Health-Santé Sud (reported Tuesday)
  • a male in his 80s from Southern Health-Santé Sud (reported Thursday)

 

Manitoba's five-day test positivity rate is 4.9 per cent. Winnipeg's test rate is 2 per cent. Starting on Friday, test rates will be shared for regions other than Winnipeg on a bi-weekly basis.

 

Hospitalizations

There are 115 people in the hospital because of COVID-19, with 86 of those people having active cases. Fifty-nine of those with active cases are not vaccinated, 22 are fully vaccinated, and five people are partly vaccinated.

There are 24 people in intensive care, with all but five of those people having active cases. All 19 people, including 12 from Southern Health, who have active cases are not vaccinated. 

 

There are three new outbreaks, all in Red (critical), in Manitoba including:

  • Health Sciences Centre, unit GD2, Surgery, in Winnipeg
  • Portage District General Hospital, medicine unit; in Portage la Prairie
  • Fernwood Place in Steinbach

 

No COVID-19 tickets were given to businesses in the past week. One ticket was given to an individual and eight were given to people for not wearing a mask inside a public place. Forty warnings were issued.
