A worker is recovering after being extracted from a serious situation Tuesday morning.

While doing construction in the 100 block of Girton Boulevard, a worker landed at the bottom of an excavated site, rendering them incapacitated and injured.

After calling emergency crews, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) and the Technical Rescue Task Force arrived at 8:41 a.m.

Unable to climb in and out of the lowered area, crews used a rescue basket and rope, securing the injured patient inside. They were hoised to safety by a WFPS aerial ladder truck.

The worker was brought to the hospital in stable condition.

The City of Winnipeg says Manitoba Workplace Health and Safety is investigating.
