Former Winnipeg Jets star Dale Hawerchuk is continuing his battle with cancer.

In April, Hawerchuk completed what his family thought would be his final round of chemotherapy for stomach cancer.

Eric, Dale Hawerchuk's son, shared on Sunday morning that his father will once again be fighting cancer. Eric says that the family is praying for Hawerchuk's recovery.

"We are praying for him and he will continue to fight hard," Eric Hawerchuk says on Twitter.

The family is hoping Hawerchuk is successful in beating his cancer.

"My dad is back in his fight against cancer due to a resurgence of this terrible disease."

The Barrie, Ontario family said in April when Hawerchuk completed his chemotherapy that they were hopeful their cancer battle had completed, but yesterday's announcement shared that this was not the case.

“We hope' this is the end of a long journey but he’s ready for anything," Eric tweeted in April.

Yesterday, the Winnipeg Jets additionally tweeted their support, sharing that the teams "thoughts and prayers" are with the Hawerchuk family.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with Dale Hawerchuk and his family as he begins another round in his courageous battle with cancer. Dale has always faced his toughest opponents head-on, and we know this will once again be no different. #HawerchukStrong," the Winnipeg Jets tweets.

Hawerchuk spent more than half of his playing career with the Winnipeg Jets and is a member of the Hockey Hall of Fame.
