Police are investigating after the remains of a middle-aged woman were discovered in a field just outside of the city's perimeter.

The Manitoba RCMP says in a release that officers from the Red River North division were called on June 6, at approximately 4:30 pm, with the report of remains of a body found in a field east of Highway 8, close to Grassmere Road in the RM of West St. Paul.

Once on-site, officers were able to determine that the deceased was a female between 40-50 years of age.

After further investigation, RCMP discovered the remains were of Lori Ann Mancheese, a 53-year-old woman from Ebb and Flow First Nation.

Investigators are awaiting the results of an autopsy and continue to investigate the circumstances of Mancheese's death.

The RCMP says in the release, "at this point in the investigation, Mancheese's death appears non-criminal in nature."
