A house fire Thursday morning has claimed the life of a family pet.

The blaze broke out just after 7 a.m. in a one-and-a-half-storey home in the 300 block of Nairn Avenue.

Smoke was pouring from the home when crews arrived. It took crews about an hour to get the fire under control.

While searching the home they found one dog was declared dead. No other injuries were reported.

Fire officials say the fire was accidental, caused by a malfunctioning clothes dryer.
