A 32-year-old man is dead following a crash just east of Winnipeg.

The Manitoba RCMP says members of the Oakbank detachment were called around 3:30 a.m. on Wednesday to a single-vehicle crash. The collision occurred on Highway 1 just west of the intersection of Provincial Road 207, also known as Deacon's Corner.

When officers arrived on scene, a 32-year-old male from Winnipeg was receiving medical attention and a SUV was resting on its roof in the westbound lane of the divided highway. The man was later pronounced deceased on scene.

The RCMP says that their initial investigation has determined an SUV was travelling eastbound when it entered the ditch and rolled several times, landing on its roof facing west in the westbound lane of Highway 1.

There is no other word at this time on what may have caused the crash.

The investigation is continuing with the assistance of an RCMP Forensic Collision Reconstructionist.

The highway was closed for several hours while police investigated.
