A North End home sustained extensive damage following a fire early Tuesday morning.

The blaze, which broke out at 1:43 a.m. in a vacant two-storey home in the 300 block of Mountain Avenue was reported by on-duty Winnipeg Police Service members.

When crews arrived on scene the fire was well involved with heavy smoke and flames coming from the home. A defensive attack was launched and the fire was declared under control at 5:06 a.m.

The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service drone was used at the scene to help the Incident Commander locate hot spots.

A pair of neighbouring homes were temporarily evacuated as a precaution. All residents have since returned home. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Damage estimates are not available at this time but the house had previously been damaged by a fire last month.
