Edna Wiebe Obituary
Edna was born on July 2, 1942, in the Neepawa Hospital, Neepawa Manitoba. The sixth child born to Peter and Bertha Dyck, she grew up with older siblings as well as many younger ones.
As a young girl she made a life-changing decision to commit her life to Jesus Christ. She was baptized upon the confession of her faith in the Spring of 1961 in the Bergthaler Church, now MacGregor West End Fellowship.
In her late teens she left home to work briefly in Wpg. Health Science Centre. This was followed by various other short-term jobs. Between jobs she spent time at home, helping out and honing her housekeeping and cooking skills!
While still in her teens Edna met Isaac Wiebe and he stole her heart! They were married on January 16, 1963.
God blessed their union with 5 amazing children. All of their married life was spent in Manitoba, starting out at Steelbridge, then moving to Mayfeld before finally retiring to MacGregor.
While living at Steelbridge tragedy struck their family when they lost their 1-year-old son, Stanley. Edna’s faith was tested but by the grace of God, she came through like gold, purified and strong!
While at Mayfeld, Edna enjoyed her garden as well as caring for a variety of animals. She especially seemed to love her chickens.
Many of their friends and family had the joy of being hosted in their home enjoying the home baking and delicious home-cooked meals that were always available.
Her winter days were filled with creating whatever she could put her hands to; whether sewing and quilting or building enchanting little Barbie doll houses, complete with furniture and fixtures down to the tiniest detail such as pictures on the walls and minuscule, little toilet paper rolls in the bathroom. Many little girls’ hearts were delighted on receiving one of these!
In July of 2006 they moved to MacGregor where they lived out their retirement years. Edna continued her gardening, growing vegetables and the most beautiful flowers. And of course, building doll houses and furniture in the wintertime. Her quilting seemed to go into turbo mode as by now all their children were married and there were grandchildren and soon great grandchildren and wouldn’t you know it, they all needed quilts!
Edna was gifted in working with children and spent many years teaching Sunday School while her own children were growing up. Now that gift transitioned into an
intense involvement with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Even in her seventies she could be found rolling in the grass with her great grandchildren!
Her health began to fail in the summer of 2022 and just before Christmas she received a cancer diagnosis. A month later she was informed that it had moved into her liver.
Her body began to weaken as time went on. She was still determined to do whatever she could for herself and continued to bake and cook mouth-watering meals for whoever happened to be in the house.
In September of 2023 it became apparent that she couldn’t push herself anymore and she was admitted into palliative care in the MacGregor Care Home. Here she brightened her little corner and seemed to plateau for a while. She frequently expressed her feelings of appreciation for the wonderful care she received there. She also confirmed often that she was looking forward to eternity and especially as she became more and more ill, she expressed her desire to go ‘home’.
In December a noticeable decline began to take place and continued until Sunday February 11 when Jesus called her name and joyfully left her broken body behind and ran into the loving embrace of her Lord and Saviour! Here she was reunited with her little boy, Stanley, and many others that beat her to the finish line.
Many of her loving family members as well as her husband, Isaac, of 61 years were there to witness the beautiful promotion of a soul into eternal rest.
The sun which had been hiding all day chose that moment to send its rays to settle on her face; the birds which had been silent began chirping and singing outside her window! What a Heavenly welcome!
Edna was much loved and will be incredibly missed by everyone whose life she touched.
Edna was predeceased by her parents Peter and Bertha Dyck; her son, Stanley; 2 brothers, Lloyd and Dennis and 2 sisters, Hilda and Marge.
She is survived by her husband, Isaac, son Donnly (Janet), Landen, Bethany, Andressa. Daughter Roxie (Martin)Melissa, Garret, Graeme, Miranda. Son, Dennis (Rhonda) Simone, Crystal, Devon and daughter Lorri-Ann (Phillip) Samantha, Emily, Laura, spouses of grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren. Also surviving are 7 brothers and 1 sister, their spouses and many nieces and nephews as well as a host of relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 22 at 1 pm in MacGregor Sommerfeld Church, MacGregor Manitoba
