Extremists in Nigeria have executed an aid worker, and are threatening that a young Christian girl is next.

Members of Boko Haram kidnapped the 15-year-old girl, Leah Sharibu, in February of 2018 along with a group of school girls. Most of the girls were released earlier this year, but Sharibu remains in captivity along with others.

Boko Haram released a video last week which shows them executing one of three female aid workers they kidnapped in May. 25-year-old Saifura Husseini Ahmed worked with the International Committee of the Red Cross.

In the execution video, an unidentified man says that the video is a "message of blood." According to several reports, he accuses the Nigerian government of ignoring previous messages.

The unidentified man continues, saying that “the other nurse and midwife will be executed in a similar manner in one month, including Leah Sharibu.”

Refuses to renounce faith

According to reports from Christian Solidarity Worldwide (CSW), Sharibu remains in captivity because she refuses to renounce her Christian faith and convert to Islam.

CSW says that Sharibu was the only Christian among the 110 girls that were kidnapped from their school in February. Her conversion is a precondition for her release.
