Festival du Voyageur is the largest winter festival in western Canada. But it's hard to celebrate winter when the weather makes it feel like spring.

The above-average temperatures over the last weekend caused multiple events to be cancelled, including Festival on the Ice and the Wild Winter Canoe Race, which is always a popular event. Another main attraction is the snow sculptures, which melted due to temperatures in the pluses.

"We're trying to be as positive as we can," Dominique Leclerc, marketing director for the Festival says. "I was looking around and people are really enjoying the weather."

Just because the snow has disappeared, doesn't mean the Festival isn't worth visiting. There are plenty of things to do, but a highlight is the quick-carve woodcarving challenge. "We have seven carvers coming from all over Canada," Leclerc says. "I highly, highly, highly encourage people to come check it out."

As for the snow sculptures and melted playground, Leclerc says it would take days and days of snow to remake those. The Festival will continue without them this year. "I don't think it needs to be cold to be winter," Leclerc says.
