This morning Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Services (WFPS) extinguished a fire at the recycling plant.

WFPS says, "At 8:18 a.m. on August 8, 2019, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to an automatic alarm at the Emterra Environmental facility in the 1000 block of Henry Avenue."

When WFPS arrived, heavy smoke was seen from a rubbish fire. The fire was in one of the structures but was making its way to another structure through an elevated conveyor belt.

Staff in the building had safely self-evacuated prior to the arrival of crews.

WFPS says, "An offensive attack was launched with crews working to protect the spread of fire to the second building. "

WFPS has the fire under control in under an hour.

While there are currently no delays to the collection schedule, and residents can put out their bins as normal, processing of recycling material at the material recovery facility will be delayed.

WFPS reported no injuries or damage estimates, but the cause of the fire will remain under investigation.
