No injuries were reported after a fire at a vacant William Avenue apartment complex was just the latest of several fires over the past two years.

The City of Winnipeg says in a release that crews were called on Wednesday, just before 6 p.m. for reports of a fire in the building, located in the 400 block of William Avenue.

Upon arrival on scene, crews found smoke and flames coming from the structure and launched an interior, offensive attack. The fire was declared under control at 6:42 p.m.

Crews completed a search of the structure and no occupants were found. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

No damage estimates are available. However, the structure had suffered significant damage from several previous fires over the past two years.

Drivers should exercise caution in the area as the significant amount of water used to fight the fire has covered the road creating icy conditions. City of Winnipeg crews will be monitoring the area and applying sand and de-icing agents as necessary.
