Winnipeg fire crews were kept busy Sunday evening battling a fire in a vacant West End home.
At 11:52 p.m. yesterday, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a vacant, two-storey house in the 400 block of Arlington Street.
When they arrived at the scene, crews found a well-involved fire with heavy smoke and flames coming from the house. As it was not safe to enter the structure, a defensive attack was launched with crews using aerial ladders to apply water to the fire and protect neighbouring homes. The fire was declared under control this morning at 2 a.m.
One firefighter was injured at the scene. They were assessed by on-scene paramedics and transported to hospital in stable condition. No other injuries were reported.
The house suffered extensive fire, smoke and water damage and is likely to be a complete loss.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
