Some say it felt more like summer than spring on Mar. 20 this year.

The wind may have kicked up some dust to end the week, but it also kicked temperatures into high gear, setting records across the province.

Winnipeg was one of 24 communities in the province to set new a new record for daily high temperatures Saturday according to data from Environment Canada.

Carman was the Manitoba hot spot at 18.3 degrees Saturday, with Emerson close behind at 18.1 degrees.

Gretna and Morden both hit 18 degrees.

Winnipeg reached 17.3 degrees, smashing its previous record of 13.9 degrees set in 1878. Records in this area have been kept since 1872.

Strong southerly winds accompanied by a ridge in the jet stream allowed for the warm air-mass that settled over parts of the province over the past few days, according to Chris Sumner, a CMOS-accredited weathercaster.

Average highs for this time of year in Manitoba hover around the two-degree mark.

The warmer weather is supposed to continue into this week.
