The family and people from the community are mourning the loss of John Harris who passed away on Sunday, April 23, who was also the first principal of Calvin Christian School.

John Harris grew up on a farm near Stony Mountain and soon found a passion for teaching after receiving his degree in 1958.

Harris first began teaching in Edmonton, then went on to act as principal for Calvin Christian School from 1960 to 1980, creating remarkable relationships and connections to the community.

Calvin Christian posted on Facebook commending Harris' work and dedication to the school.

"Mr. Harris played an important role in Calvin's history and we're very grateful for his leadership and years of dedicated service. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this time of sorrow."

After his time with Calvin Christian, Harris went on to teach in Lethbridge, Ottawa and Regina until 1990 when he retired. Although, that would not stop him from serving as a substitute teacher at Calvin Christian, and he even went on to teach the English language to Chinese teachers for eight weeks.

Harris then continued to teach English to immigrants as a second language.

This generous man devoted his life to God and loved his family. He will be deeply missed.

Please keep thoughts and prayers on the family.

A memorial service for John Harris will be held on Saturday, April 29 at 1 p.m. at Covenant Christian Reformed Church.
