It may be more difficult this year for Manitobans to get their flu shot.

The federal government says some provincial flu vaccination programs may have to be pushed back while supplies are worked out. Manufacturers of the vaccines are experiencing shortages and delivery delays, according to the government. Only about 55 per cent of orders are ready for the entire country right now.

In Manitoba, government officials have notified health-care providers that orders are being cut.

The delay may affect the total number of flu shots available throughout the season and some advertisements that promote the vaccine are being delayed.

Manitoba Health Minister Cameron Friesen says work is underway to ensure high-priority areas such as nursing homes get the vaccine.

Manitoba Health is encouraging people to help prevent the spread of the flu by shielding coughs and sneezes.
