A Winnipeg man who defrauded his former company out of more than four-point-two million dollars was sentenced yesterday.

Paul Ramdath has received a six-and-a-half-year prison sentence and has been ordered to pay restitution.

Ramdath is the former chief financial officer for Litz Crane and Rigging. When the company experienced cash flow problems it hired an accounting firm to perform an audit that discovered the mishandling of company money. Ramdath was arrested in 2019 following a police investigation.

He pleaded guilty to one count of fraud over $5,000 in January.

The court heard over a five-year period beginning in 2012, Ramdath used company credit cards for personal items, as well as used fraudulent payroll transfers for personal gain. He was well-known for living a lavish lifestyle, including hiring private jets, and owned several luxury cars, while being paid a salary of $85,000 a year.
