On Tuesday, May 31, 2022, Bruxy Cavey of Hamilton, Ont. was arrested and charged with Sexual Assault.

This happened after there was an investigation into reports of sexual assault brought to the attention of the Hamilton Police Service.

According to the Hamilton Police report, Bruxy Cavey was the primary teaching pastor at The Meeting House Church at the time of the assault and was employed there from 1996 to 2021. The Meeting House Church has its headquarters in Oakville, with remote locations throughout the Greater Toronto Area.

Previously, Cavey had women come forward and say that he was sexually inappropriate with them. An investigation took place in 2021 and in November, the report found that for several years Cavey had a sexual relationship with a congregant who had come to him for pastoral counselling. The report said that Cavey's actions constituted an abuse of his power as a member of the clergy, but stopped short of calling it sexual abuse.

On March 8, 2022, Cavey released a blog entitled  "My Confession" in which he admitted to sexual misconduct but only as an extramarital affair. Afterward, two more women from the church came forward with sexual allegations.

It is unclear if the arrest was made in relation to the previous allegations of sexual misconduct inside the church or not.

Hamilton Police believe that there may be more victims and encourage anyone with information to come forward. Cavey will appear in court on Monday, June 27, 2022.
