Mild temperatures have central Manitoba expecting more freezing rain and fog until this weekend.

Environment Canada has been monitoring a stratus that has been blanketing Manitoba for the past few days and advises the city of Winnipeg and surrounding areas such as Selkirk, Portage la Prairie, and Winkler to be cautious of slippery conditions caused by the freezing drizzle.

"We've been seeing freezing drizzle for the past two hours at the airport specifically," says EC meteorologist Janelle Gergely.

Currently, no delays are reported at the airport due to the weather.

People in the affected areas can expect highways and streets to be slippery, along with walkways, so everyone is being cautioned to adjust to the conditions.

Along with the freezing drizzle advisory, Gergely says that we can still expect fog to lay out across the prairies while this stratus continues to settle over the province.

The freezing rain is expected to end later this evening, with a 30 percent chance of light snow and fog developing as a replacement.

"I'm seeing on the weekend there's a bit of change in pattern that should help move out that stratus and the fog and the freezing drizzle risk. So, the best chance is likely on Saturday."
