Winnipeggers are encouraged to spend time outside and The Forks is giving an opportunity to do that as part of the ongoing Play at The Forks Initiative.

The project includes opportunities for table tennis, basketball, and free workouts. Added this summer is Workout Wednesdays. There will be weekly workouts at CN Field on Wednesdays from 5:30-6:30 p.m. starting on July 10 until the end of August, led by Sport Manitoba.

There will also be table tennis demonstrations and workshops from 5-7 p.m. every Thursday until the end of August from the Manitoba Table Tennis Association.

“We love seeing people engaging with each other and using the site in active and exciting ways, and the Play at The Forks initiative encourages just that,” says Sara Stasiuk, Chief Executive Officer, The Forks North Portage in a news release. “Plus, you may just find me on the court shooting from downtown.”

Back for the second year, Play at The Forks was a hit as people enjoyed the free activities around the CN Stage and Field. After table tennis was so popular, it moved inside during the winter in The Forks where it has been used daily since.

Wednesday Workouts is free and people can register on the Sport Manitoba website. The basketball and table tennis elements run all summer and is free and open to the public for pick-up games.

The Forks says that if the CN Stage and Field is booked for a large event, Play elements will be stored and returned to the area once the event is complete.
