Freezing rain has left several highways in southern Manitoba covered in a sheet of ice Friday evening.

Manitoba Infrastructure has closed Highway 75 from Winnipeg to Morris as of 7 p.m.

While other highways remain open, callers to the radio station say that driving conditions are extremely poor. That includes not only highways outside of Winnipeg, but also streets within city limits.

One caller reported a collision westbound on Highway 1 just west of Headingley. The report several vehicles involved including three semis.

Several social media posts confirm poor conditions on Highway 1, with traffic having to slow to 50 km/h much of the time, and even as low as 20 km/h in some stretches.

Manitoba Storm Chasers shared a live broadcast on Highway 1 near Portage la Prairie showing traffic crawling along the major highway.

Manitoba Infrastructure also reports Highway 59 is ice-covered from Winnipeg to the U.S. border.
