His life was spiralling out of control until he had an encounter with God last year, and now a Canadian hip-hop artist is sharing music that resonates with his transformed heart.

Once singing on the main stage, Canadian hip-hop artist Kalem Moses lost it all before finding his eternal worth.

Moses first started sharing his own hip-hop music in 2018, releasing a full-length album titled Gift of Desperation. Just one month later Moses was opening up for Canadian hip-hop artist Classified. But things were not perfect in Moses' life.

The Connections podcast: real life, real faith

"I'm from Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan and you could say there isn't a whole lot of opportunity for younger kids. The way I was brought up, something I learned was addiction. There was tons of drinking and drugs and this was more of what I understood to be life than not."

Moses dated his now-wife back when they were both in high school.

"We met at a very young age and we fought through addictions together and had a few kids along the way. It got to the point where I ended up losing everything. I lost Ashley, we lost our kids. I was in this depressive state, which is what addiction does."

Through a recovery program, Moses got clean and has been for four years. The program also introduced him to the Lord.

"It took me years of that process to come to accept the Lord and that He's been the one there the whole time. I rejected Him for so long."

Ashley broke up with Moses over a year ago when they only had custody of their youngest child. Shortly after, Moses had a radical encounter with God alone in his car, and since then he's experienced new life.

"We got married last year right after I gave myself to the Lord, and we have our four kids back in our care."

The couple and their kids now reside in Fort St. John, in Northern B.C.

Breaking Into the Christian Music Scene

Moses' first Christian hip-hop single is 'Glory to the Lord' being released on Wednesday.

"A couple of months ago God told me He wanted me to minister through music. I'm not here to please anyone, I'm not here to please myself, I'm here to please Him and by doing that I'm allowing Him to take control."

Moses says that he was fasting when he wrote his new single and doesn't fully recall the process.

"When the Holy Spirit is in me writing with me, time is not even in the equation. That's the beautiful thing."

Moses is releasing his first five-song Christian EP Reborn shortly.
