A local hockey tournament brings women from all over the province for a single day of playing hockey, all while supporting an orphanage in Africa.

The Women's EMCup started out as a church hockey tournament, but has since become a tournament that you sign up for as an individual or small group, and then get placed on a team. Like every other hockey tournament, participants will play multiple games in hopes of becoming the champion.

Unlike some other hockey tournaments, the players take a break during the day for 'Her Story', a time where they listen to a guest speaker talk about their life as well as their faith.

"That's the part that's been really unique," Bonnie Kroeker, the tournament organizer said. "A lot of people say this tournament has a different feel, but in a very positive and encouraging way."

There is a silent auction at the tournament, which raises funds for Ramona's Reach, an orphanage in Uganda, Africa. A newer project, the home hopes to have 35 orphans by the end of 2017.

Kroeker says that another unique part of the tournament is that there will be people from all walks of life. "There have definitely been conversations," Kroeker said. "There will be seeds planted."
